Yesterday I invited two of Japanese friends to dinner after running together in the evening. Before seven o'clock they came to my home. They seemed to be surprised at the newness and the snazzy atmosphere of my home. I live in the capital city in Vanuatu, Port Vila, however people who live in other island hardly have a house like this. I heard that there is only one window in the one of my friends' house. So people like him seem to envy this kind of house.
I served the bowl of tomato based vegetable soup with pasta, sandwiches, some fruits, ice creams, alcohols, soft drinks, and chocolate. The chocolate that I bought was too expensive to buy as a chocolate. It cost more than 500 Vatu (500yen = about 6.5 US$). They seemed to be surprised at food because they didn't expect to have them, especially desserts and various kinds of tea. We enjoyed talking about their background and dinner.
It was good for me that they seemed to be satisfied with dinner. I hope they come again.

That is pretty expensive for chocolate! And I hope you all had a great time.
How about my English?
Thanks!!
Yesterday I invited two of my Japanese friends to dinner after running together in the evening.
They came to my home before seven o'clock. (It's a bit more natural to start the sentence with the subject "they")
I live in the capital city in Vanuatu, Port Vila, however people who live on other island(s?) rarely have a house like this.
I heard that one of my friends only has one window in his house. (more natural word order)
I served the bowl of tomato based vegetable soup with pasta, sandwiches, some fruits, ice creams, alcohols, soft drinks, and chocolate.
The chocolate that I bought was too expensive for chocolate. (or too expensive for what it was)
They seemed to be surprised at the variety of food because they didn't expect me to have them, especially desserts and various kinds of tea.
We enjoyed talking about their background and dinner. (If you put 'dinner' at the end, it sounds like you were talking about "their dinner" - what they usually eat. Do you mean the dinner that you had with them? If so then:We enjoyed talking about the dinner as well as their backgrounds. )
It was good for me (I was pleased) that they seemed to be satisfied with dinner.
You sound like a PERFECT host!!
Also, I'd like to memorize "too expensive for what it was."
We hardly ever go to school anymore.
We hardly ever have steak for dinner.
It means the same as rarely.
I served a bowl of tomato based vegetable soup with pasta, sandwiches, some fruits, ice creams, alcohols, soft drinks, and chocolate.
I bought some very expenseive chocolate.
"I bought some very EXPENSIVE chocolate." Please excuse my typo
How about my English? Do you think honestly that there are any advances? ← Sorry to ask you a difficult question to answer.
Also, I noticed your frustration with listening to English.
I, too, experience similar discouragement. I attend tea ceremony class and listen to Japanese news and any interesting Japanese TV programs. When you mention being unable to completely understand the preacher's sermon, it's similar to my attending Chamber Music rehearsals and I could kick myself because I feel totally ignorant, but let's perservere!
meal with beers and wine!!!
looks tasty :P
Do you like beer and wine?
