L and R sounds Part 2

After I posted my first journal about the L and R sounds, I got an interesting comment saying, “the Japanese R is actually 50% English R, 40% English L, and 10% English D.” Until then I had thought Japanese R is closer to the English L.
Yesterday I went to an English conversation class and talked to the Australian teacher about the Japanese R, the English L and the English R. And I said ra/ri/ru/re/ro in Japanese and asked her what it sounded like. She said English L. But she also said the Japanese ra/ri/ru/re/ro sometimes sounds like the English R.
What do you think the Japanese ra/ri/ru/re/ro sound like? Are they closer to the English L or the English R? Or do they sound completely different?
