This might be a stereotypical idea or an image. I think that the Japanese women have a positive image in the west or around the world. On the other hand, the Japanese men doesn't have a positive image around the world.
Or the Japanese men are not as popular as the Japanese women.
What kind of image do you have about the Japanese men? Or are there any stereotypical image about the Japanese men in your country?
I'm just curious about that, since I'm a Japanese man.

I know in some communities, and sub-cultures, where Japanese women are lusted after; they view Japanese men as very perverted because they only see Japanese men when they are acting in porn films. So at least you're not considered 草食男子 overseas.
Japanese men in America are assumed to be three things: Short (with small junk...hey im being honest), Incredibly smart (Particularly in math), and are kung fu masters.
It's a pretty big stereotype but we don't really think that way. At least not fully.
I dont think that way at all! lol It's just thats the first thing Americans think of. We're stupid.
I'm not good at math and English either. :)
This might be a stereotypical idea/image but connect to next sentence

というイメージがあります。
They think things will be easier there.
They have no talent other than teaching English.

In Taiwan it varies, some girls like me, tend to be attracted, but some aren't. I grew up really liking Japanese culture, hence for my attraction to Japanese men.
As in the US, I think only girls who are into anime/cosplay and such are into Japanese guys. Otherwise, normally, people just see them as like another Asian guy.
They're so stupid, just want to be popular among Asian young girls who learn English.

"日本の男は世界でどう思われるか"とは 本当に日本人らしい考え方だ。
正直に言って どーでもいいだ。
そんなこと気にするなよ at the end of the day, 人それぞれだろう?
上記 yingは言った、
"Japanese guys all watch hentai anime and junior-idol videos."
これはこいつの個人的イメージ。
おそらく かれがいつもそのようなvideosを見ている hentai の一人で、アジアで自分の母国語を教えるしかできない loser だから。
というイメージがあります。
Also, I think there's an image here in America that Japanese men are "geeky." The bad side of that is that stereotypical geeks are considered emotionally and socially awkward, bad in romantic relationships, shy, antisocial, and obsessed with something that dominates their life (like anime, manga, science, or math). The good side, though, is that geeks are also supposed to be smart, good problem-solvers, and very good at technical or mechanical things (like fixing computers).
I also think some people think most Japanese men are very hard workers and very respectful all the time, and that you all wear black suits and are employed in offices. ;D
But I don't think everyone here has these ideas. Many people just don't know anything about Japan at all. If they had to pick a stereotype, they would probably say Japanese men are smart and businesslike and determined, and Japanese women are beautiful and exotic and polite. I don't think "smart and businesslike and determined" is considered bad, though — it's just not as *attractive* or *appealing* to many people here as "beautiful and exotic and polite," you know? Smart, businesslike and determined is great if you're looking for someone to hire for a job, though!
Also, I don't think the stereotype of Japanese women is all good. I think some people here think of Japanese women as mindlessly obedient housewives who are afraid to express their own personalities.
And as kind of a strange opposite stereotype, I think there's sometimes a stereotype of Japanese girls as being obsessed with clothing and makeup and being pretty, to the point where they're kind of stupid about everything else. (So Japanese men are smart, and Japanese girls are dumb or mindless. That's an interesting combination, right? ;))
I realize these stereotypes are pretty ridiculous, so I want to emphasize that they're probably not that common. Most people I know just don't really have an opinion of Japanese people. ;)
As for me ... I have no firm general opinion until I have more information. ;D Mostly, I just think Japanese people are people. So everyone is a little different!
Interestingly and strangely when I speak in English or write in English, I feel my personality changes a bit. I become less shy. That might be one of the reasons I study English. :)
I like that (possible) reason for studying English. If it makes you feel more confident, that's very cool. :D
Which ironically shows that we also stereotype our stereotypes. lol
Believe it or not often "geeky" men are often dedicated to whatever work they are successful at, and to their lovers.
Geeky men are more likely to dote on their ladies and do their best to make them happy. Since they are stereotyped as being intelligent, but somewhat socially awkward and unhygenic, they often have a hard time finding a girl. When they do...it is like they have found a precious treasure and they will do their best to learn about who you are, what your dreams are, and what you enjoy. Majority are often nearly OCD about cleanliness...maybe as a result of the degrading stereotype.
Yes, I am a little biased since I am married to a 'geek'. (English/Business major and former professional gamer)But I have also noticed this among many of my friends who are either geeks or in 'geeky'relationships. there are many breeds...smart, gamers, otaku, and expert. I know some from every category and the half that are married are happily so.
In regard to stereotype of Japanese men...there definitely are. Many stereotypes include geek status, but some others are that Japanese men are loyal, and supportive lovers. This is considered a positive alternative to the stereotypical lazy, abusive, mannerless American male. This is the stereotype mentioned amongst young Americans who are either otaku or cultural enthusiasts.
Otaku are typically obsessed with 'bishie' or びしょうねん men. They appreciate the angular and often professional physical appearance of Japanese men. Gackt がくとさん is a prime example of the otaku love for the Japanese male physique.
Another stereotype is that of Japanese-American men...seen as often taking up hip-hop or ghetto culture.
"Japanese-American men are just like Caucasian-American men lazy, abusive, and masochistic. So I'm gonna snatch up a 'real' Japanese man who is loyal and respectful"
Of course if people were actually anything like their stereotypes...wow!
People forget that no two people are exactly alike...everyone has their own story.
(And of course, I'm somewhat biased as the ex-girlfriend of a geek who failed miserably to make her happy. ;))
I think the most important point is that people are all themselves, so we need to get to know individuals if we really care about understanding people. :D
