Three Days in Berlin (3)

My friend have lived in Berlin for five years. He knows Germany well. He told me interesting stories in the train to and from the observatory. The East and West Germany was reunified in 1990. We tend to think that the reunion gave the East Germany people free and made them happy. He said it was basically true, but not always. It was true that they had been less free than now, but they had their society and they lived in it. Although they were not rich, there was no unemployment because jobs were allocated by government in communism country. They got other types of problems after reunion: unemployment, and a gap between rich and poor. Some of old people, who lived in the East Germany, tended to long for the old days.
His story was quite impressive to me. Although I cannot understand their feeling because I'm not a communist, I should accept and admit the fact there are many different concepts of value in the world. If I were in Japan, I could not know that.
