珊瑚 : A requirement for marriage (2)

I met a friend and she told me that she would get married this year.

The last time I met her, she worried about her father.

She was an only daughter and her father loved her very much, so she warried that her father wouldn't approve to get married with her boyfriend.

I asked her, "How did you get an approvement from your father? She told me a story.

One day she asked her father "Do you have any requirements/wishes for my marriage partner?"

A few days passed, her father sent her a text message.

It was a reply for her question.

There was a line.

"A person who loves you more than me."

I thought she was a happy woman.　Her father is awesome!

I was trying to write about Valentine's Day in Japan, but it wouldn’t be interesting so I stopped to write about it and started to read other people’s entry about valentine’s day.

A man wrote about his valentine’s day.
In his entry, he said, “On my way home from work, my bag seemed sad. I felt sorry for my bag.”
When I read this, I thought “what a cute guy!” and I was becoming to want to give him chocolate.:)

Feb. 3 is a day called “Setsubun/節分” in Japan.

“Setsubun/節分” literally means "the day between two seasons."

Japanese think Feb.3 is the end of winter and it separates the winter season and the spring season.

“Setu/節”　is from the word “season/季節” and “Bun/分” is from the word “separate/分ける” in Japanese.

On the day of “Setsubun/節分”, the bean-throwing ceremony is done at shrine and at home.

People throw beans shouting "Fortune in and demons out".

My family went to a shrine to participate in the Setsubun event yesterday

At the shrine, people on the platform threw packets of beans, candies, and chocolates and other people picked them.

People were excited because if we picked the beans, people in the shrine exchanged it to some gifts.

Some children raised a big bag over his head to get many packets of beans.

My baby cried because she was scared of people’s excitement, but we had a fun time.
I watched James Cameron’s presentation on TV yesterday.

He talked about half his life and the story behind the movie “Titanic”.

When he was a child, he loved SF.

One day, he found the lives of deep sea looked like aliens and monsters of SF.

After that, he was interested in the world of deep sea and he started scuba diving.

Since then, he has dived over 3000 hours in total to explore the ocean!

The movie “Titanic” is a love and romance movie.
But he said the reason why he made it, he just wanted to see the real Titanic in the deep sea.

As a matter of fact, the opening of the movie, we can see the real Titanic in the deep sea.

I also like scuba diving, and sometimes I dive to see sunken ship, but people in general can’t see “Titanic”.　Because it exists at 3,650m in the deep sea.

珊瑚 : Baby　massage (2)

I joined a baby massage class today.

I learned how to massage a baby and the effects for a baby.

The teacher said if we massage a baby everyday, these effects will be seen:

1.Sleep well/ Become to have a good sleep
（I'm not sure which is better to say)

2.Prevent constipation / Become to do a good poo
（I'm not sure which is better to say)

3.Become to trust their parents

During the massage, my daughter's face looked feel-good and sometimes she squealed with laughter.
Maybe there were some effiects like above, but the best effect for me was that I saw her pleased face.

Whenever she gets sleepy, she wants to pick her up and rock to and fro. But she is very heavy now. It is tough to pick her up every time she wants. So when she wants to pick her up, I will massage her instead of picking her up. :)

珊瑚 : A beautiful song (2)

This is a video of my favorite song.

The song is for sufferers of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake.

The songwriter put hopes that the people will beyond the disaster and make a new future into the lyrics.

The songwriter is also from eastern Japan.

I think many Japanese know the song because just after the earthquake, NHK broadcasted this song everyday.

These days, sometimes it is broadcasted.

Every time I heard this song, I think I must not forget 3.11 and I have to do my best everyday life.

Japanese version:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xt3ab5_yyyy-nhk-hanawasakunhkproject_shortfilms

English version:
Please skip the ad at the beginning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF4YqeXdGZk

If you are interested in the Japanese lyrics, please look below.
I visited to a shrine during the New Years holiday.
It is a Japanese custom to visit a shrine during the New Years holiday.
That day, lots of people lined to pray and it took 30 minutes to arrive in front of the shrine.
At the shrine, I did many things.
At first, I threw coins in the donation box and pray the wish.
After that, I bought lucky charms and drew sacred lots to know our fortune.
At the shrine, there were many stands and they sold various kinds of foods.
I enjoyed a pan-fried noodle, Takoyaki/octopus dumplings, a taffy apple and a cotton candy.
I think these stands are interesting for foreigners.
If you have a chance to come to Japan, please try Takoyaki. It is delicious!
New year’s dishes

This picture is a special New year’s dishes called “Osechi-ryori”.

These are almost homemade foods.

My family prepared “Osechi” together cooperatively before New years day.

We made 30 kinds of foods this year.

Each of the dishes has some meaning such as good health, long life, prosperity etc.

For example, shrimp means "long life" because their bodies are bent like an old man’s.

Mashed sweet potato with chestnuts is yellow and the color reminds us gold, so it means prosperity.

Do you have any special New year's dishes in your family?
Sorry, once again I write about an event that happened last year because I haven't written a journal entry lately.

I stayed at the house of in-lows from on Dec.28 to Jan.1 to celebrate New Year together.

As in-lows live far from my house, it was the second time for my daughter to see them.

In-lows had wanted to see their grandchild since she was born.

When we arrived at the house, her great-grandmother had come, and we received a huge welcome.

Great-grandmother carried my daughter in her hip many times and each of those times, she said "I am so happy."

I was very glad to be able to see the sight.

My husband and I went to car dealership last weekend.

My husband has a stick-shift car and sometimes I drive it. But I don’t like a stick-shift car.

I ask him to change it to automatic car for a long time.

I told him many reasons that I want to change.

For example, it is tough to drive a stick-shift car when the street is very busy, etc. But he thinks changing shift is fun.

Finally, he changes his mind.

Now, in Japan, more people drive automatic car than a stick-shift car.

Even there is a driving license to be able to drive only the automatic car.

Hybrid car like Prius is very popular now.

Which is popular a stick-shift car or an automatic car in your country?
I like hot spring very much.

It is my hobby to search a nice hot spring in all over Japan.

I went to hot spring last weekend.

This hot spring had white water and had very unusual bathtubs.

There were 6 bathtubs in one room and each bathtub had different temperatures.

The first buthtub was 41 degrees (/106Ｆ). Next buthtub was 42 degrees(/108F)・・・・and the most hot buthtub was 48 degrees(/119F)!!.

Ordinary people couldn’t get in such a hot buth, but "Hot spring master" could get in it!

I respected her! From 29th April to 8th of May, we have a long holiday in Japan. This period is called “Golden Week”.

Golden week containing 4 public holidays .

One of the public holiday of Golden week, there is “Children’s day.”

On Children’s day, families with children decorate “Koinobori”.

Koinobori is a carp streamer(/a carp shape banner).

Parents decorate it in order to wish for children's growth.

Chinese legends say a carp become a dragon when they swim up the rapid stream.

I saw many carp streamers at the river in my town.

It’s not laundry. ^^;

Actually, it was more beautiful when the wind blew. It looked like swimming itself.
I went to the sea near Mt Fuji to dive today.(^^)
The sea condition was good.

I heard that a headfish had appeared on last Saturday, so we looked for it.
We couldn’t see it. That's a bummer!
Instead a headfish, we saw many sea slugs.
One of the sea slug which we saw was extremely popular among Japanese diver because it looks like Picachu.
Do you think this sea slug looks like Picachu?

Sea slugs are a member of a univalve shell. It is not a slug.

They have bright colors on their body so they are called a “gem of the sea.”
Sea slugs have lost their shell because they have developed other defense mechanisms.
The bright color means “I’m a danger” (some kind of the sea slug have a poison) or the color is useful for their camouflage to avoid their enemy.

In another step, they are both sexes. Wow ! Sometimes it is a male, sometimes it is a female…
Next, I want to see a sea slug called “Internet sea slug”.
I like to play sanshin.

A sanshin is an Okinawan three-stringed instrument which originated in China.

It is an original of shamisen, the traditional Japanese musical instrument.

The body of the sanshin has a snakeskin covering.

(But the real snakeskin is expensive, so my sanshin has a printed snakeskin covering.)

It is playd with a pick.

The score is written in Kanji, like "工" means "C(/do)".

Playing sanshin is so much fun, but the lyrics of the songs for sanshin are difficult to understand because it is written in a Okinawan dialect.
三線（sanshin)を弾くのはとても楽しいですが、三線（sanshin)の曲の歌詞は沖縄の方言で書かれているので理解するのが難しいです。

The sound of sanshin make a nice accompaniment to the sound of waves lapping
the beach.
三線（sanshin）の音色は波の音によく似合います。

I guess it is an oriental healing music..
