I Saw a Solar Eclipse for the First Time.

There was a solar eclipse this morning in Japan.
I saw it for the first time in my life.
Besides that, it was an annular solar eclipse!
When I saw the sky through the east window at 6:30 a.m., it was cloudy.
But gradually the clouds were cleaning and I could see the perfect annular eclipse!
I took a few photos of it through the special glasses for solar eclipse as a memory.
I couldn't took them well but I am very pleased with this photo above.
By the way, while the solar eclipse was occurring, the sky turned darker and I felt a little bit cooler than before it had stated.
I was so surprised at the natural phenomena.
As always, thank you for reading!
I'd be happy if you'd leave corrections and comments.

I Saw a Solar Eclipse for the First Time. (no period should be used in a title)
Moreover, it was an annular solar eclipse!
But gradually the clouds cleared and I could see the perfect annular eclipse!
I took a few photos of it through the special glasses for solar eclipses as a memory.
I couldn't take them very well but I am very pleased with the photo above.
By the way, while the solar eclipse was occurring, the sky turned darker and I felt a little bit cooler than before it started.
I'm glad you experienced it! It is important to experience as a human being, I think.
As always, thank you for correcting my journal entry!
Your corrections were very helpful!
Wow! Have you seen a total eclipse? I'm jealous of you!
I'd like to experience the sky like at night.
I agree with you! I was lucky enough to experience the Solar eclipse!
When I looked at the sky through the east window at 6:30 a.m., it was cloudy.
Alternative. I think it sounds a bit better here.
I took a few photos of it through the special solar eclipse glasses as a souvenir.
"Souvenir" usually means gift from trips etc., but I think it's ok here.
"Solar eclipse" is used as adjective for "glasses" here.
By the way, while the solar eclipse was occurring, the sky turned darker and it felt a little bit cooler than before it had started.
I was so amazed at the natural phenomenon.
Since the event in question is the solar eclipse (=singular), I think phenomenon (=singular, plural=phenomena) is better.
Thank you for teaching me that!
as a memory ⇒ as a souvenir
I understood that a photo is a thing, so it is better to use "souvenir" in this sentence.
Am I correct?
>it started
Both are OK?
Actually, "phenomena" meant "the sky turned darker and it felt a little bit cooler" in this sentence.
When I noticed the (or these) changes of the natural phenomena (?), I was so surprised.
Does this sentence make sense?
> When I looked at the sky through the east window at 6:30 a.m., it was cloudy.
たとえば、「When I saw the sky, I looked at an airplane」と言うと、変な文章なります。^^; 「When I looked at the sky, I saw an airplane.」
> I took a few photos of it through the special solar eclipse glasses as a souvenir.
> By the way, while the solar eclipse was occurring, the sky turned darker and it felt a little bit cooler than before it had started.
I felt a bit cooler than before it started
> I was so amazed at the natural phenomenon.
なるほど。そういう意味だったんですか。でもこの場合、「空が暗くなる」現象と「ちょっと寒くなった」現象は、分断された現象ではなく、原因と結果なので、二つを丸めた一つのphenomenonというのも正しいと思います。それは二つのphenomenaにしちゃうと、「ちょっと寒くなる」事がそれ自体としてsurprised/amazedされたということになって、「この私がちょっと寒くなるなんて、ありえない」というようになるかも。 ^^;
If any of that didn't make any sense (maybe I couldn't explain well enough in Japanese), please let me know!
>When I looked at the sky, I saw an airplane.
see=見える、目に入ってくる、見つけた
>as a souvenir
I felt a bit cooler than before it had started.
I felt a bit cooler than before it started.
I got it!
>phenomenon/phenomena の説明もありがとうございました。
>If any of that didn't make any sense (maybe I couldn't explain well enough in Japanese), please let me know!
No, not at all! Your explanations were easily understandable!
Thank you so much!
上の写真の日食用のメガネを当てて、私は太陽を見ないように、デジカメのモニターを確認しながら撮った写真です。ですから、手振れで、リングがダブってしまいました。何枚か撮ったうちで、これが一番ましでした^_^;
Is everything allright?
I've been very busy recently with exams and so on, and now that everything is almost over, I don't know what to do with the spare time. XD
Both Lang-8 and FB seem to be flooded with images of the eclipse. I think your image is very nice! ^^
Did you know that there will be more of these?
http://www.asahi.com/national/update/0521/OSK201205210077.html
Recantly, I have written only one or two journal entries a month.
Everythig is almost allright.
To be honest, I didn't feel well last week, but I'm getting well this week. Thank you for your concern.
>I don't know what to do with the spare time. XD
Have you finished packing (preparing) for your trip to Japan?
Then, please enjoy your spare time! ^^
Thank you for your compliment on my image.
Again, thank you for telling me about the transit of Venus across the sun. Recently, I learned about it. I'm looking forward to observing it.
I'm sorry to hear you were ill, but I'm glad that you feel better!
Hope Venus makes a spectacular sight!!!!
>Hope Venus makes a spectacular sight!!!!
Thanks! I hope so!!!
I'm glad many people in Japan and Southeast Asia were able to see the eclipse :)
Thank you for showing( putting? pushing?) me some nod points.
They were very helpful!
Again, thank you for your compliment on my photo.
My hand shook a little when I pressed the shutter, so the photo was out of focus (>_<) But I'm glad to hear you liked it. Thanks!
The day before yesterday, we didn't have very good weather, so
I was lucky to be able to see the eclipse.(^_^)
I've never seen it yet.... We didn't have such opportunity.
I'm glad that you can get such experience^^
Thank you for you comment!
I have seen the lunar eclipse twice, but this is the first time for me to see the solar eclipse. I was lucky to have such a wonderful experience.
I hope you will see it in the near future! Good luck to you, too!
I couldn't take many decent pictures but I am very pleased with this photo above.
"I couldn't take them well" makes sense, but as you took such a superb photo, I think it proves you could take at least one very photo well!
This photo is really amazing, I've never seen anything like it, you are a gifted photographer!
It's good the clouds cleared isn't it, and did the whole sky really become noticeably darker?! Wow! What a great experience!
As always, thank you for your correction and nod points.
Again, thank you for your compliment! Your kind words made my day!
I don't have a filter (for camera) for taking a photo of solar eclipses, so I covered the lens with (I put the lens over?) the solar eclipse glasses with my left hand and I pressed the shutter with my right hand, so I couldn't have the camera steady. That's why the photo was out of focus.
You know what I'm saying? My explanation was not so good. Sorry! (>_<) Anyway, I'm glad to hear you like my photo!
>Did the whole sky really become noticeably darker?!
Yeah!
The whole sky became darker like the early-evening skies.
I want to see a total eclipse someday!
I hope you will see it in the near future!
I understand! Well it was a good technique, you ended up with a great photo!
I would very much like to see one too sometime!
I hope you are well, I always enjoy reading your journal!
I'm glad I could manage to explain it.^_^
I always enjoy reading your journal, too!
---------------------------------------------
I couldn't take many decent pictures but I am very pleased with this photo above.
->I am very pleased with one photo above very well.(?_?)
Sorry! "one photo very well" の付け方が、よく分からないです。
->"I couldn't take them well" makes sense, but as you took such a superb photo, I think it proves you could take at least one photo very well!
"I couldn't take many decent pictures but I am very pleased with this photo above."
(This is OK I think.)
NOT "I am very pleased with one photo above very well."
sorry if I confused you >_<
No worries!
I got it!
Thank you for explaining me that.
I hope you enjoyed it!
I'm sorry for the slow response.
The eclipse was visible in California, wasn't it?
At first, I didn't have no interest in the eclipse, but my husband bought the solar eclipse glasses for whole family in advance (He bought 4 glasses.), so I could see the eclipse by myself.
Have you seen a total eclipse before? I want to see it someday!
I'm not sure where I'll be living in the future, so I don't know if I'll get to see a total solar eclipse.
2035 is still a long way, so I'm not sure if I'll get to see a total splar eclipse.
I saw one for the first time in my life.
"It" is better for something that is always there, like a building or a place.
It was an annular solar eclipse!
I think you can get away with just saying it here.
But gradually the clouds were clearing and I could see the perfect annular eclipse!
I couldn't take them well, but I am very pleased with this photo above.
By the way, while the solar eclipse was occurring, the sky turned darker and I felt a little bit cooler than before it had started.
I think some of the other corrections you got for this were nitpicky, though they were correct too.
>I felt a little bit cooler
>I felt a little bit colder
"Colder" is better when talking about yourself, while you can use "colder" or "cooler" to talk about weather. However, it is no big mistake ^^
>>before it had started.
>>before it started.
"Before it started" is simply less wordy, but you can say either one with no problems!
A solar eclipse, so cool!
I wanted to see it, but I couldn't from the east coast.
Someday, I hope to have the opportunity.
Your pictures are cool!
As always, Thank you for your corrections and explanations. They were very helpful.
(more natural)
I hope you will have the opportunity to see the Solar Eclipse in the near future!
Thank you for teaching me that.
I always waver between using past tense and past perfect tense.
>you can say either one with no problems!
I got it. Thanks!
Thank you for commenting, and for helping my Japanese!
I think the English past tense can be needlessly complicated. I'm not sure why it's that way, when similar languages like German are simpler!
You are doing well, though!
Glad I can help! ^_^
>You are doing well, though!
