May 24, 2011 13:02 Japanese_language 助詞 conjunctions 「は」
You did not think that a man would come out.
However, he came out.
In Japanese, except for “しかし”, “だが”, “でも”, and other contradictory conjunctions, what conjunction would you use to connect these sentences? (Conjunctions include conjunctive adverbs.)

A common one is “実際は”, though there can be others. (Let me know your suggestions.)
実際は来た。

However, the following is clearly wrong.
実際来た。or 実際,来た。

実際 without は has to be followed by “He did not come (as I thought).” It becomes a non-contradictive conjunction (or like). This は indicates a contrast between what is previously said and what is hereafter to be said.
