I didn't know about the Emperor of Japan well because I have never taught about it.
But I could know it after reading the book written by Tsuneyasu Takeda, who is the great-great grandson of the Meiji Emperor.
So I'll try to explain about the Emperor of Japan in the following, referring to his book.

The origin of Japanese religious sense is gratitude for Mother Nature and ancestors.
Japanese ancestors had a concept that human beings were given life by the bounty of Mother Nature.
This idea developed to "Shinto".
The role of Japanese Emperor is praying happiness of his nation to Mother Nature.
He stands on the point of contact between nature and human world.
His one of the most important ceremonies is gratitude for Mother Nature.
The Emperor has repeated apologizing of his immorality whenever a disaster occurred.
So Japanese Emperor is completely different from other countries' and Japanese people have adored the Emperor as a monarch for more than 2,000 years.
The Imperial household and the nation have supported each other for a long time.
Uprising against the Emperor unable to happen in Japan.

Now I understand why His Majesty the Emperor and Her Majesty the Emperess went to the stricken areas by the Northeast Japan Earthquake many times, even though both of them are not good physical condition.
Children have been taught about history of the national foundation at school before the World War 2.
But the education was denied by GHQ, so most of the people who were born after the war don't know about it.
The occupation policy was succeeded to mutilate Japanese people.
I think that Japan must be released from the spell of the occupation policy.
