I think (a) is correct, but I'm not sure (b) is.

it makes sense
I prefer (a) to (b)
both make sense, but with (b) the 'away' is implied and so that makes it slightly harder to read than (a) which is easier to understand.
"the farther something is" sounds better to me than "the farther a thing is" as well, not sure if that's the same for all English readers or just me!

"farther" で距離的な "隔たり" を表現しているが、
"away" が入ることによって視点から "離れた" 感覚が加わり理解しやすいということでしょうか。
I prefer A, but I think B is also okay.
