I took part in a lunch meeting of an association of Japanese travel agencies in LA.
The speaker of the meeting was staff of Consulate General of Japan.
They talked about the public safety situation in LA and the troubles that they have handled.
The number of supports that they did in 2010 was 803.
It is the fifth highest number in the consulates in the world.
However the number of crimes in that Japanese were involved was only 85 including 74 thefts.
In Los Angeles, the number of crimes is decreasing.
LA Mayor boasts of a special team targeting gang group in LAPD contributed to the figure.
Certainly, I haven’t felt any fear for a crime since I moved to the US.
On the other hand, the number of thefts is increasing.
It is caused by the fact that the petty criminals are released easily because the jail is lack of rooms for them.
One of my acquaintances was suffered from a car break-in recently.
I have to pay attention to my belongings and secure the locks of my house and car.

When you says "supports" I suppose you mean "people who supported"?In 2010, they had the support of 803 people.
However the number of crimes in that the Japanese were involved was only 85 including 74 thefts.
Certainly, I haven’t felt any fear of crime since I moved to the US.

"Handled" is not incorrect but "dealt with" sounds better in this sentence.
However the number of crimes in which Japanese citizens were involved in was only 85,74 of which were thefts.
In Los Angeles, their rate of crime is decreasing.
LA Mayor boasts that a specialist team in the LAPD targeting gangs have contributed to the decline of the figure.
I certainly haven’t felt any fear of crime since I moved to the US.
This is caused by the fact that the criminals with less serious offences are released too quickly because the jails have no room for them.
We use "room" instead of "rooms" because we are not refering to rooms in a house we are refering to space in the building as a whole.
One of my acquaintances had their car broken into recently.
instead of acquaintances, If you want to be less formal you can just say "Someone I know had their car broken into recently."
I have to protect to my belongings and make sure my house and car are both locked.
Wow, It must be really cool to live in the US. I always wanted to go to LA! But I didn't know they had a lot of theft in the US.
Your English is really advanced! Do your best!
LA is very good place to live in. Of course here is good for a traveler. You don't worry about theft so much. Just keeping eyes on your belongings is enough.
The number of "supports" that they did in 2010 was 803.//The number of occasions in 2010, on which they had to provide support for Japanese citizens, was 803.
If "support" is the actual term that they use to describe these incidents in the consulate, then it needs to go in inverted commas (and probably be explained), because it is jargon and not really standard English.
I have heard that in the safe areas (I suppose that would be the rich or middle class areas) it is actually much safer than in the UK or Europe, and you can leave your car or house unlocked, but in the dangerous areas (the poor areas) it is much worse. (In the UK you always have to lock your house and car no matter where you live/park)
In my hometown in Japan, I can leave my car and house unlocked.
Thank you for your advise.
