I took part in a tour to cruise around the port of Los Angeles.
A Japanese assistant director of the port guided it.
Port of LA and Long Beach, which lay side by side, handle 40% of the imported containers to the US that are delivered to the main cities in the US including New York.
It is said if the port was closed for one day, the damage cost to the US economy will be more than one million dollars.
I learned a few interesting facts through the tour.
The port has very strict regulations to protect the natural environment.
For example, any construction should be applied for with the amount of pollution they will emit. The landfill in the port has to be built with only local soil.
Many Hollywood movies have been shot in the port like “Speed”, “Pirates of Caribbean” and so on because of the good location near Hollywoodl.
It was good chance to learn how the big port is related to our life.
