The Different Sounds of the Word "サラダ"

I was surprised at the pronunciation of the word “サラダ" a foreigner used.

外国人が言った「サラダ」の発音に驚きました。

When I talked with a foreign priest he said that he made a bungalow with

“ サラダ wood".

私が外国人神父さんと話しをしているとき、彼は「サダダの材木」を使ってバンガローを造ったといいました。

I thought “サラダ”was a “salad” that we made with vegetables.

私は「サラダ」はやさいで作るサラダと思いました。

Then I thought “salad” would surely have a different meaning.

そこで「サラダ」はきっと違う意味があると思いました。

However I noticed it was “solid" when I asked for the spelling.

しかし、スペルを聞いたときそれは「堅い」とわかりました。

And I looked up the phonetic symbol in my dictionary .

そして辞書でその発音記号を調べました。

“Salad” and “Solid” are totally different sounds for Japanese person.

これらは、日本語では完全に違う音です。

However, I thought that it was a really similar sound in English.

しかし、英語では本当に似ている音であると思いました。

I was surprised at the way how a foreigner pronounced the word “サラダ".
