A Kansai high school student who came back to Japan from overseas had high fever and was quarantined.
The government officers worked at Narita Airport were all in white clothers. (This would emphasis the wearing of the officers.)
It became a panic because we had never been vaccinated or had any medicines to deal with it. (In English, Drugs are usually refer to 毒品. Medicine is used for medical purpose. )
However, the government didn't change the policy even after the swine flu was solved.
Then the government claimed that mask was useful.
Even now, people in Japan are still wearing masks because the masks keep warm.
I should use the medicines instead.
Japanese love masks.

It's compatible idea, when getting sick people wear the masks.
SARS is critical disease, I know. However I haven't heard it recently.
In my memory, SARS was maybe broadcast on TV in Japan 2003.
