Japanese Summer Festival Hakata Gion Yamakasa

In Japan there are many summer festivals here and there. I must move to another place every five to ten years on my husband business. To tell you the truth, although I don't like moving another place so much, I can find some enjoyment after I move to new places.
I want to introduce about some Japanese festivals which I've seen before.

In this time I want to introduce one of the most popular festivasl in Japan.
I had lived in hakata twenty years ago. There is a very famous summer festival which is called hakata gion yamakasa there.
I was born in kansai area and as I've never seen such an energetic festival before, I was very surprised at the atmosphere of yamakasa.

We can see the festival middle of July every year in hakata. Each town has each potable shrine which is called yama and only guys can carry the yama on their shoulder. When they carry it on their shoulder, most of them drink sake and they run around in hakata area. They have a race from Kushida shrine to the goal.
It is very manly festival.
After this festival is over, people in hakata feel that real summer starts.
