I went to Akita prefecture, my home town, with a British friend.
We visited a very famous tourist spot in Akita, Kakunodate. This place is famous for its cherry blossoms in Spring and colored leaves in Autumn.

But winter is also a good time to visit. Because not so many people visit there, you could enjoy very calm and nice atmosphere there.

Kakunodate is a small historical place which has been preserved from Edo era.
Some houses are more than 200 years old. Some houses are still used as just ordinary houses. They let us see some parts of their houses. Some are used like museums.

In Japan, most old houses were made of woods, so it is very rare that those houses still exist.

After we visited old houses called Bukeyasiki(samurai's houses), we stayed in a ryokan(Japanese style hotel).
We took a bath there. That is a natural hot spring. There was also a hot spring outside. While we were soaking in the hot spring, snow was falling on us softly.

I felt very comfortable and warm after walking in the snow.

If you click this site, you can see Kakunodate in snow. Please enjoy it.
