“Mozuku-gani(Japanese mitten crab)” is an autumn delicacy in Japan.
“Mozuku” is a name of a kind of seaweed as its hair on hands looks like the seaweed. “Gani(kani)” means crab in Japanese language. They live in rivers throughout Japan. In autumn, the female crab has roe, which tastes rich and flavorful. It is caught by crabbing baskets and sold in supermarkets and Izakaya(Japanese-style tavern). It cost about a few dollars in Japan, while Chinese mitten crab, also known as “the Shanghai hairy crab”, costs ten to fifty dollars in China.
