I have been here in England for a month and I found an interesting thing, which is I feel more comfortable and confident to speak English with non-native speakers than native speakers. I can communicate well and keep talking with a Thai or Korean in English. But when I talk with an English, the only thing I can say is "Okay, yes, sorry?"
I think there might be two reasons for this. The first one is that local people speak too fast and they use some words and sentences or slang that are too complicated for me. Another reason is that I'm afraid to make mistakes when speaking to native speakers. I think about the grammar every time before I say the sentences. And I do not say anything unless I am 100% sure it is grammarly correct.
This sounds stupid but it may take some time to overcome it.
