I watched a TV program whose title is "Japanese words that Japanese people don't know".
「日本人の知らない日本語」というタイトルのテレビ番組を見ました。

In that program it was said "鮪 (tuna)" originally ment "鱘 (sturgeon)" in China.
その番組で、「鮪（マグロ）」はもともと中国では「鱘（チョウザメ）」を意味していたといっていました。
But when Japanese people saw the picture of sturgeon and the explanation for the first time, they mistook sturgeon for tuna.
しかし、日本人が初めてチョウザメの絵とその説明を見たとき、彼らはチョウザメをマグロと誤解しました。
So, in Japan "鮪" means tuna (マグロ) even though the original meaning is sturgeon (チョウザメ) in China.
そのため、もともと中国では「鮪」はチョウザメを意味していたのに、日本ではマグロを意味します。
I don't know what "鱘" ment in China or it was existed in china originally.
「鱘」が中国では何を意味していたのか、それとも、その漢字が中国にあったのか？はわかりません。
Does someone know such a word that have different meaning between countries?
そのように国によって意味が異なる言葉をご存知の方はいますか？

意味が異なる言葉と言えば、たくさんあります。タガログ語では「バカ」は牛のことです。

最近、アメリカ人が自分の服装のことをヤンキーファッションと言っていたのを聞きましたが、「ヤンキー」は英語でアメリカ人という意味だと知りました。日本語で「ヤンキー」は不良を意味します。そのアメリカ人がヤンキーを日本語の意味で言っていたのか、英語の意味で言っていたのか、どちらなのかは分かりません。
