Unlike the feminine Anne Shirley, Emily Starr is a more masculine character,
Even though Anne sometimes has hissy fits and is obstinate in her early teens, she gradually grows out of it and becomes a normal and attractive lady.
Emily Starr, on the other hand, has something of an inner fortitude and can get quite aggressive at times.
Moreover, she has a firm ambition to become a famous writer in the future.
When asked by her teacher about the reason why she wants to write, Emily of New Moon answers "I want to be famous and rich."
Anne Shirley of Green Gables would never have said that.
