I'm going to write a summary of the short story titled "二廃人" by Japanese mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo. "二廃人" may be translated into "Two Cripples" but "廃人" means a person who are devastated not just physically but also mentally. It was published in 1924.

The Story is about two man who get to know each other in a hot spring. (A hot spring here is a special hot spring called "湯治場" where sick persons would take a bath for treatment of illness). One is Saito who have deformed face injured during the previous war and the other is Ihara. After taking a bath, they talks about their pasts.
Saito talks about his tough experiences during the war showing his numerous old injuries.

Having heard his story, Ihara begins to tell Saito about his bitter history:
When he was a student decades ago, he was staying at a apartment in Tokyo. This apartment here is a kind of old Japanese large house where dozens of students live in their respective rooms like a dormitory, not pubic but commercial one.

This may be one-thirds of it and I'd like to write the rest later.
