Modern Pingshu?
In Chinese culture, Pingshu meaning “storytelling”, is one of forms of entertainment in mass culture in China. We say “說書” or “評書” in Mandarin. Recently my brother has been fascinated with talk shows about knowledge. He watched both Chinese and Taiwanese talk shows. He thinks that the main reason he falls in love with those shows is because he can learn not only new knowledge but also others’ thinking contexts. Generally speaking the shows from Taiwan is shorter than those from China, and the issues are more closed to younger generations. You can find some people have unique perspectives. Many shows from China are telling historical stories and delve them profoundly. For me it really looks like “modern Pingshu.” People are telling variously interesting topics and develop different styles. Though I do not watch as many as my brother, I am interested. if I find something interesting, I will share with you.
