Burn the First Incense Stick
In my trip to Kyoto, when I was lining to get shuin in Kinkakuji, a local woman beside me chatted with me. She introduced me a beautiful temple in Hyōgo-ken. According to her, there is a custom that people run and compete who is the first one to get into the temple in New Year. The one who wins the first will be bless good luck in the whole year. So many people join this event, the huge crowd of people is special scenery. I wanted to say that we have similar custom in Taiwan too call “搶頭香”.
Because I talked to her in Japanese, so I could not explain it very well. And I found that I could not explain it in English either. So today I try to practice. We have the custom of burning the first incense stick to get good fortune.
