A big event which is held once every four years finally started.
The opening ceremony was exciting.
I could learn English history from it.
I want to watch many athletes compete on TV.
But I don't have much time to watch the Olympics because many homework for my summer vacation
are waiting for me.
One of my home work, an English text called "NEWS BREAKS" picked up a news about the London Olympics. The text said "One highlight this year is women's soccer.".
I think so too.
I am looking forward to watching their nice play.

your sentence is grammatically correct but it makes more sense to say "It helped me learn English (or British) history"
