if you ask about person, you can use あれはだれですか？who is he/she? or かれはだれですか？who is he?　かのじょはだれですか？who is she? I believe that using かれ/かのじょ is better than あれ. it seems to be more polite for him/her. about lamp,book and pet, you can use ...
