Over the recent holiday, I rode my bicycle to Okutama which lies to the west of Tokyo, which is famous for its beautiful scarlet-tinged maples in autumn. It takes 3hours to get there from my home, so I left my home at 9:00a.m. As you know, Tokyo is one of the biggest cities in the world, but if you go 70km away from the central part of the city, you can enjoy vast wilderness.
I was looking forward to seeing the beautiful scarlet-tinged leaves very much, but after cycling for three hours, all I found were green mountains there. I couldn't believe my eyes. There were no scarlet-tinged leaves!
Some experts say, due to the global warming, the season of scarlet-tinged leaves is slowly getting later and later each year. Maybe I came too early. It was my fault.
I returned home disappointed. The three hours return trip seemed extremely long.

Or on the recent holiday if it was just one day. I recommend including the name of the tree. It sounds more natural when you describe momiji in English.

I like riding my bicycle, too! I rode once over 100 km in Taiwan, but I hate riding with motorcycles flying back and forth on both side of me... == The traffic here is dangerous....

Almost full sounds strange when describing mountains. Maybe completely.

It was actually the same length. I assume it just felt long because you were disappointed.
