My birthday and school lunch

I became 42 years old. My mother became a grandmother when she was 44 years old, so I couldn’t believe I might be a grandmother in just two years, though my son doesn't have any plan to be married until now. He is a high school student.
My daughter gave me a birthday card that she made by herself and my husband took us to a Chinese restaurant. My son gave a word, "Happy Birthday, Mom."
I decided two things to live healthy after retirement. One is to do a proper exercise and the other is to eat healthy food.
I walk for 15 minutes every day. I bought a treadmill last year, but I hadn't used it for a while. Walking is a good exercise for everyone. I don't have much time to do exercise, but I can make it for just 15 minutes. I walk at 3 km/h for 15 minutes on the treadmill.
My co-worker said that fresh juice is very good for health, so I started to drink a glass of fresh juice a day. I make it with a mixer.
I think the amount of eating vegetables my family eats was less than the standard amount because I don't like cooking.
Children under 15 years old, who go to a public school, eat school lunch. School lunch is called “Kyushoku” in Japanese. It is well considered for children by nutritionists. I didn't care about dinner because my children ate school lunch which has good nutrients. However, my son's high school doesn't have school lunch. I have to make a lunch box. He eats food I cooked every day. I have to be careful to cook. I wish there is a school lunch at his school.
Anyway, I use more vegetables when I cook something until now.
By the way, have you ever heard of Japanese school lunch? The public elementary and middle schools provide school lunch. They are not free, but not so expensive. They cost about 4000 yen per month. As I wrote above, they are well-considered and cooked by specialists.
Students can eat them in warm degree.
(I don't know how to say this. I wanted to say they can eat school lunch, which are not cold and the food temperature keeps warm.)
My city has some school lunch centers. A school lunch center cooks for some schools together and they are delivered to each school.
In a small city like my hometown, a school has a kitchen to cook school lunch by itself.
My daughter complains about the taste of school lunch. She says my cooking is the best. She prefers my lunchbox even if it isn't warm. I’m very glad to hear that, but I still hope school lunch is the best for working mothers.

Happy birthday! Enjoy your life very much!!
By the way, is mixed juice made by the juicer tasty? Before I wanted the machine for mixing.
> By the way, is mixed juice made by the juicer tasty?
It depends on ingredients.
I like carrots and apples juice. It looks orange and tastes delicious, but it looks bad when you put in green leaves like komatsuna and it doesn't taste good, but it is available to drink.
I just turned 42 (years old).
Usually you add *when* you turned ie. 42yo. like "I just turned..." or "I turned 42 today."
In the correction above the bracketed "years old" is not needed and most usually left out. A case where it would fit would be "I'm now 42 years old."
My mother became a grandmother when she was 44 years old, but I couldn't picture myself being a grandmother in just two years, though (as/since/and/moreover) my son doesn't have any plans to marry until now(?) (still/yet).
The logic is wrong in this sentance with the use of the word "so". if your grandmother became one at 44 years of age you wouldn't normally say "so I couldn't believe". you would rather say "but I can't believe I might..." since there's a dissimilarity, not a similarity between you and your grandmother.
about the "until now." does that mean he has decided to marry now? otherwise you would say still or yet if he still is not about to marry.
My son gave a word(.........?), "Happy Birthday, Mom."
I'm assuming you mean your son _said_ "Happy Birthday, Mom." and in that case you would use "My son said "Happy Birthday, Mom." but if you want to use the word "give" which has a nice ring to it you could make a rare wording like "My son gave me the words "Happy Birthday, Mom." it sounds more poetic or like a novelist might write with intention but mostly would not be used. However in this case, it is a special occasion: Your birthday. so I could've used that sentance.
I bought a treadmill last year, but I haven't used it for a while.
I don't have much time to do exercise, but I can make it for (just) 15 minutes.
My co-worker said that fresh juice is very good for health, so I started to drink a glass of fresh juice a day.
it's not incorrect to say "good for health" but it is common to say "for your health" or "for ones health".
I think the amount of eating vegetables my family eats was less than the standard amount because I don't like cooking.
It is considered good for children by nutritionists.
I have to make lunch boxes.
"a lunch box" would be for if you specify an occasion. in general terms you use plural.
He eats food I cooked every day.
or "He eats food I've cooked every day."
I have to be careful and make sure to cook.
I wish there were a school lunch at his school.
Anyway, I use more vegetables when I cook something until now.
Students can eat them in warm degree.
I’m very glad to hear that, but I still hope school lunch is the best for working mothers.
"hope" doesn't make sense unless you say "but I still hope school lunch would become more common for the sake of working mothers." but to be short you'd say "but I still think school lunch is the best for working mothers." (if you would mean that.)
They eat school lunch on the same desk at which they study.
They bring a place mat made of clothes with them and spread them out on their desk when they eat school lunch.
Not sure if you mean a "place mat" made of clothes but you probably mean "cloth".
Given the assumption that what you're referring to is the typical cloth "wrapped" or "tied" around a typical japanese lunch box I'd only use the one word cloth.
hope it helps! red are sure corrections, blue are more of suggestions to more common ways of wording what you want to say.
> hope it helps
They are so helpful!
Happy Birthday!!!!
My mother became a grandmother when she was 44 years old, so I couldn’t believe I might be a grandmother myself in just two years, though my son doesn't have any plans to be married until right now.
My daughter gave me a birthday card that she made by herself, and my husband took us to a Chinese restaurant.
My son exclaimed gave a word, "Happy Birthday, Mom."
I decided two things to live stay healthy after retirement.
"Live healthy" is completely understandable, but we (in the USA) usually say, in such context, "stay healthy."
One is to do a proper exercise, and the other is to eat healthy food.
I walk (for) 15 minutes every day.
Walking is a good exercise for everyone.
My co-worker said that drinking fresh juice is very good for one's health, so I started to drink a glass of fresh juice a each day.
I think the amount of eating vegetables my family eats was is less than the standard amount because I don't like cooking.
I didn't care about dinner because my children ate school lunch which is nutritious has good nutrients.
I have to make him a lunch box.

They are It is not free, but it's not so expensive.

They The students eat school lunches at on the same desk on which they study.
They bring a place mat made of clothes with them and spread them it out on their desk when they eat school lunch.
I recall when I was in elementary school there was a kitchen and dining hall where some students ate lunch. Mostly we brought lunch from home. The same continued through "junior high" (middle) school and high school.
I rarely ate a school lunch, though.
It's probably good for students to eat food other than made by their mothers so they are exposed to different things.
I didn't like eating a school lunch on the same desk I studied when I was a student.
I wish there was a dining hall.
The best thing to do in retirement is keep your mind active, if you want to live longer. The way you study English would be very good to continued (even work harder at) when you retire. They say, learning complex and difficult things in old age forces the mind to build new synapses, similar to what young people's minds do everyday, and the process of building new synapses re-enforces the older synapses, keeping the whole mind young, regardless of age. I don't worry about your mind getting old though, I think you have a personality to never become "old" in your thinking.
Some of my friends from high school are grandparents already.
I remember one girl who sat next to me in 10th grade. She had a baby. I thought, if her children and her children's children continued the trend, she will be a great-grandmother in two years. It's kind of a scary thought, when my oldest child is only 7.
My school always had a dining hall, but at my school in North Carolina, the dining hall had retractable tables and benches and a stage, so it was also the auditorium where plays and shows and school wide meetings were held. I thought it was a very efficient use of space, even though it was a lot of work for the custodians to flip it from dining to auditorium seating, which they had to do every time there was a show in the afternoon or evening.
By the way, my daughter turns 42 this Friday -- believe it!
> I don't worry about your mind getting old though, I think you have a personality to never become "old" in your thinking
I heard that learning foreign languages is an good exercise for our brain.
> the dining hall had retractable tables and benches and a stage
That's good. I think stundents like to change places when they have lunch.
> my daughter turns 42 this Friday -- believe it!
What a coincidence! Happy birthday to your daughter!
I hope she will have a good day on her birthday.
> Was diverted to recollections of school lunches
I'm sorry I made you confused, but I wanted to write about school lunch at that time. I hope you enjoyed my journal.
You might be interested to know that my daughter likes to visit me on my mountaintop so she can train for an athletic event happening this August. It is the Leadville Trail 100 Footrace. !00 miles running on mountain trails from 10,000 feet elevation, up to 12,000 feet.
I might be tempted to think she won't finish, but ten years ago she surprised me by finishing an Iron Man competition (2.5 mile open water swim, 112 miles cycling, 26.2 miles running). She recently finished the Pikes Peak climb (to 14,100 feet elevation), up & down, in one day. She drove 2 hours from Denver, did the climb, then drove back.
Hmmmm . . . .
I feel exhausted after a fifteen walk. I have to do more exercise regularly. I love mountains very much because I used to live in a mountain when I was a child. It is good to walk in a nature. You are so lucky!
> I always enjoy your journals! It's fun to learn about Japanese culture.
Thank you very much. I'm very glad to hear that!
I think the school lunch system is similar in the US, but the food itself is pretty different, of course. When I was in elementary school I remember getting my hand stamped with a "Last Lunch" stamp to remind my parents that the needed to put more money in my lunch account because there was only enough for one more meal. I guess the school didn't trust the kids to remember by themselves. 良い判断ですけど ^^
> I remember getting my hand stamped with a "Last Lunch" stamp to remind my parents that the needed to put more money in my lunch account because there was only enough for one more meal
In Japan, school lunch fees are usually paid by bank transfer, but some of them refuse it. It becomes a serious problem. Local governments have some trouble of the short of budget.
How does Last Lunch stamp look like?
It sounds cute!
