To define term is important thing in discussion. Ambiguities definition make wrong conclusions. In addition we lose many time for useless discussion.
However to define something is often quite hard job. If a discussion is fight like boxing, it is easy to win using Zen-mondo as follows.
(1) Find ambiguities definition
(2) point it while your opposition say something.
This is training method in Zen Buddhist.

We lose many time for useless discussion by using this way too.

To define terms is an important thing in discussion.
Ambiguous definitions make wrong conclusions.
In addition we lose many waste much time in useless discussion. (For would be fine if useless discussion is intended [if intending useless discussion can truely be useless if it's intended].)
However to define something is often quite hard to do.
If a discussion is fight like boxing, it is easy to win using Zen-mondo as follows.
(1) Find an ambiguous definition
(2) point it while your opposition say something.
This is training method in Zen Buddhists use. (seems awkward, not sure how to fix it, so i made my best guess.)
We waste much time in useless discussion by using this method too. ("by" can be omitted here in my area.)
>If a discussion is fight like boxing, it is easy to win using Zen-mondo as follows.
>point it while your opposition say something.
>This is training method in Zen Buddhists use.
I think your collection is collrect.
I agree to your thought about debate. Personal attacks in debate is problem.
It is important to share goals before debate to prevent the attacks.
「If the argument results in punching and kicking, it is easy to win by discussing it as a Zen Buddhist would」と欲しい意味と思います。
>>その点を相手が何か言ってる間繰り返しなさい
「Point it out if some one repeats an argument (point).」
>>It is important to share goals before debate to prevent the attacks.
