  • came to be is ok, but it sounds a little weird. i use "become" instead of "became" because you are still careful about your teeth now (i hope you are :D ), so present tense. "than before" tells the reader you are comparing something about now, and the past. So with comparisons, you have to use words that show difference in degree, like "more" or "less" Since you explained about learning from getting bad teeth, the choice would be "more careful"
