Repeat the same word

I've heard that it is not good to repeat the same word several times in the close sentences.
That's right, isn't it?

Although I haven't known the basic English word, that's mean I need to remember a lot of synonyms.
I do a little search on the Japanese-English dictionary for "怖い".
I'm afraid.
I'm scared.
I'm frightened.

It's scary.
It's terrible.
It's awful.

(Just the sentences that I have known)

There are lots of expressions.
So I don't know which expression I use.
Is it okay that I use these sentences in order?

Please Help me!

Hi Yosa . I'm afraid, I'm scared, I'm frightened, all have similar meanings and are inter-changeable. If you wanted to say you were very frightened, scared, or afraid. You could say : I'm terrified {filled with terror}.

It's scary, I'ts terrible, it's awful, are similar in meaning, but not so inter-changeable. It would depend on the sentence.

For example: A "scary movie" could also be described as "terrible" or "awful". Terrible weather could also be called "awful" weather. If it was a "typhoon" it could be called "scary" weather.

Also, a "terrible" or "awful" movie might not necessarily be scary. It could have poor acting or a boring story. "Scary" relates to fear, but "terrible" and "awful" are used more to describe if something is bad.

A meal may be "terrible" or "awful" but not "scary!!".

One thing good to note is that terrible and terrifying are different.

Terrifying is similar to scary but it is a stronger word.

Terrible and awful is as Lisa said.

Is it the same case in Japanese? If it weird if you use the same words over and over again?

It may be "scary" if what you are eating is "still alive!!".

Japanese often add the last part of the Japanese sentence such as "～だと思う。".
"思う" is a comprehensive term.
It is used to express an opinion assertively or not.

It's common to use the same expression when talking, but when writing it's better to have variation. When I write essays in English I sometimes have to use a thesaurus to find synonyms.
