If you go to a particular (famous) island, you can express "私は○○島へ行きました。"If you go to a mere island, you had better express "私は海へ行きました。"Japanese people generally express "went to the sea", I think.

私は列島へ行きました。 I didn't know the archipelago, so I googled. It's "アーキペラゴ", "群島（ぐんとう）", "多島海（たとうかい）", "列島（れっとう）", and others in Japanese. If I'll write it, as this "私はアーキペラゴ（群島）へ行きました。"
I want to swim there. I want to have a meal with seeing that sea.
And, that rhythmical music is in Japanese＾＾

When I was thinking about a fitting song, this one came to my mind :P
And "群島（ぐんとう）" and "列島（れっとう）" is felt like a technical term.
We usually call all of those "島" of either the singular or the plural in spoken Japanese.
But I think "akiperago" you said was like a proper noun.
We use a word just like the original language if it is a proper noun.
I guess you can write it "アーキペラゴ", and I hope you to add "多島海（たとうかい）" or "群島（ぐんとう）" for us who don't know akiperago.
That rhythmical song makes me spread a guess of your pleasure when you were there ♪
and (guntou) sounds like food :P
